Looking to lower your natural gas consumption, improve your green footprint, and keep more cash in your bank account? We at DFW Property Management present these tips by SoCalGas to reduce natural gas use during cold weather to help keep energy costs affordable:

Lower the temp

Lower your furnace thermostat by three to five degrees, if health permits, to save up to 10 percent on heating costs.

Keep the washer full

Run only full loads of dishes and clothes to keep costs low.

Install low-flow showerheads

You can slash your hot water use by upgrading to an eco-friendly showerhead.

Fresh filters

Clean or replace your furnace filters according to manufacturer recommendations.

Check the ducts.

Have your air ducts tested for leaks. Leaky ducts can cost you between 10 to 30 percent in heating and cooling costs.

Watch the water heater

Reduce the temperature on your water heater to minimize costs.

Wash clothes in cold water

This also allows you to mix lights and darks without any color bleed.
