Move-Out Checklist
Follow this checklist to maximize your security deposit return. 45 days' written notice is required before moving out.
DFW Property Management requires 45 days' written notice before moving out. To maximize your security deposit return, follow our detailed cleaning checklist, fill nail holes, replace air filters and burned-out bulbs, and return all keys and access devices to our office on move-out day.
45 Days Before Move-Out
- Submit 45-day written notice to vacate (oral/verbal not sufficient)
- Review your lease for any specific move-out requirements
- Begin planning your move and utility transfers
Cleaning — Kitchen
- Clean oven, stovetop, and range hood inside and out
- Clean refrigerator inside and out (remove all food)
- Clean dishwasher inside and out
- Clean microwave inside and out
- Wipe down all countertops and cabinets
- Clean sink and fixtures
- Sweep and mop floors
Cleaning — Bathrooms
- Scrub tub, shower, and tile
- Clean toilet inside and out
- Clean sinks, mirrors, and fixtures
- Clean cabinets and countertops
- Sweep and mop floors
Cleaning — General
- Vacuum all carpeted areas
- Sweep and mop all hard floors
- Dust all ceiling fans, light fixtures, and vents
- Clean all windows (inside)
- Wipe down all light switches and door handles
- Clean window blinds/coverings
- Clean garage (if applicable)
- Remove all trash, personal items, and debris
Repairs & Condition
- Fill all nail holes with spackle
- Touch up paint where needed
- Replace any burned-out light bulbs
- Replace HVAC air filter
- Ensure all smoke/CO detectors have working batteries
Yard (If Applicable)
- Mow and edge the lawn
- Trim shrubs and bushes
- Remove weeds from beds and walkways
- Remove any personal items from yard
Move-Out Day
- Remove ALL personal belongings from the property
- Return ALL keys, garage remotes, and access devices to our office
- Transfer utilities out of your name (effective day after lease ends)
- Take photos/videos of the property's condition for your records
- Lock all doors and windows
